Just to preface this – I write for a local newspaper and they graciously allow me to post all my articles here on my site. The only downside is that I have to wait to post them until the week after they are published. This means that when an article is time sensitive… You get the article late 🙁 So keep these ideas in mind for next year!
It seems as though the older I get, the quicker holidays sneak up on me and I am left utterly unprepared. Last year, trick or treaters came to my house and I had to go dig through my pantry for fruit snacks and leftover easter candy. It wasn’t pretty folks. This year, I have at least remembered the candy but I didn’t even start to look for costumes until it was way too late. And since I’m pregnant, there isn’t much of a selection anyways. I am being brave and making my own! So if you have found yourself just a few days away from Halloween with nothing to wear, I have a whole bubbling cauldron full of great last minute DIY costume ideas for you.
A Bunch of Grapes : Get a bunch of green or purple balloons. Blow them all up and tape them all over yourself! You can wear a green or brown hat to be the stem.
A Fish Bowl : (This is my costume this year) I am glueing a circle piece of blue fabric to the belly of my shirt and taping little construction paper fishies to it.
Crazy Cat Lady : Don your finest robe, slippers and hair curlers and tie lots of stuffed animal kitties to your body.
Cereal Killer : Wear a black outfit and tape lots of little boxes of cereal and plastic knives to your body.
Christmas Tree : Yes, it’s Halloween but why not use last years Christmas garland and tinsel for something great? Wear a green shirt and black or brown pants and wrap yourself in the Christmas decor. Add a strand of battery powered lights for extra points.
Identity Thief : Have any “My Name Is…” stickers lying around? Wear a black outfit – write different names on all the tags and stick them to your clothes.
Nickelback : Remember the band Nickelback? Go ahead and glue lots of nickels to the back of an old tshirt and you are now a part of the band. Beware – you may be missing part of your costume by the end of the night.
Party Animal : Pull out all the animal print clothing you own, put it all on, add a party hat and Voilà! Party Animal!
American Idol Contestant : Go online and print off the American Idol Logo, tape it to your chest and be prepared to belt out a few tunes on command.
Bag of Jelly Beans : For this, you need lots of little balloons blown up, a clear garbage bag, and a Jelly Bean logo courtesy of your printer. Cut leg holes out of the bottom.of the bag, step into the bag and tape it to your pants. Fill the bag with the little balloons and tie it loosely around your neck, then tape the logo to the front. If you don’t have a big bag, or if you are dressing a child in this – just use a small clear garbage bag, skip cutting leg holes and just tape the bag of balloons/Jelly Beans to the front of your outfit.
There you have it!! So many very cheap, very easy Halloween Costumes. Happy Halloween.
